Notes on a Scandal

I just returned from viewing "Notes on a Scandal" with Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett. Wonderful movie because of great acting, great script great crafting of scene, but not because it was a "great" story. In fact, the movie was disturbing to say the least, even though the subject matter, pedophilia, is splashed across our newspapers and television screens and we are not as shocked as we might have been before Mary Kay Letourneau and Debra LeFave.

Sidebar (Ok, all three are blondes, two out of three have French surnames and maybe Blanchett is French too!)

Back to point. Is this a movie about levels of evil? Child predators? Emotional blackmail? Adultery? Lust? Betrayal? Loneliness? Old age? Lots to think about.

Most of us conclude that it is a very good movie. If it's not the content, then it's the packaging and this particular packaging of evil seduces us.

Packaging is marketing and we are this movie's target audience.

Cut.
